Dementia Counselor Tami Anastasia
Tami Anastasia is an Alzheimer’s and dementia counselor and educator, providing one-on-one caregiver support, guidance and strategies to help make the dementia journey easier on the caregiver. Tami holds a Master’s Degree in Counseling and has Certificates in Gerontology and End-of-Life. She is the author of Essential Strategies for the Dementia Caregiver: Learning to PACE Yourself.
In addition to her work as a dementia counselor and consultant, Tami facilitates dementia caregiver support groups and conducts educational workshops and personalized one-on-one educational sessions. She also works with people with dementia and provides cognitive and physical stimulation. She is a frequent speaker at professional and community organizations, senior retirement communities, memory care and assisted living communities, health and wellness conferences, local colleges, and public health libraries. Tami has been a guest on local television and radio shows and has published several articles on health and wellness.

Tami is passionate about making the dementia journey as loving, meaningful, supportive, and compassionate as possible. Combining her unique six-point process for dementia care with her knowledge and expertise in behavioral analysis, she develops personalized care strategies, tools, and action plans for each individual situation regardless of how difficult the situation is.
With nearly a lifetime in the health and wellness industry, Tami has been providing dementia counseling and wellness services for over 25 years. As the owner of TAMS Wellness Studio, Tami merged the two disciplines of counseling and personal training to provide people of all ages, sizes, and fitness levels the physical and emotional support necessary to overcome resistant behavior and make healthy lifestyle changes. Tami is the author of the groundbreaking exercise book Toward A Magnificent Self: The Exercise Book For Every Body, which provides realistic solutions on how to overcome personal exercise barriers.
In 2012, Tami expanded her private practice to provide support, guidance and care strategies for families caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s and dementia. She has become an expert in helping dementia caregivers navigate the day-to-day demands and responsibilities. Her primary focus as a dementia counselor is to improve the quality of life for the caregiver and the person living with dementia.

- Step One: Schedule a dementia guidance and support session by phone, Zoom or in person. This allows you to discuss in depth your immediate issues and/or concerns and allows Tami to provide you with expert insights, information, and strategies that will be beneficial to you and your loved one.
- Step Two: After your initial dementia guidance and support session, you can decide to schedule a follow-up session or purchase a package of three or five dementia guidance and support sessions.
Note: All sessions can be done by phone, via Zoom, or in person.
- Initial session:
- Identify and assess caregiver’s needs
- Educate and increase caregiver’s understanding of behavioral and cognitive changes due to dementia
- Provide specific caregiver techniques and strategies
- Provide resources or referrals if needed
- Optional: Second one hour follow-up session:
- Discuss and evaluate the effectiveness of caregiver techniques and strategies provided in the initial session
- Discuss caregiver’s observations and awareness of causes, patterns, and triggers of dementia behaviors
- Evaluate progress
Dementia Guidance and Support Session Packages:
- Three one-hour weekly dementia guidance and support sessions to be completed within three weeks include:
- Initial session – see description above
- Second session – see description above
- Third session: Modify caregiver communication and behavioral techniques, process caregiver’s thoughts and feelings to reduce caregiver guilt and stress.
- Five one-hour dementia guidance and support sessions to be completed within 6 weeks includes:
- Initial session – see description above
- Second session – see description above
- Third session – see description above
- Fourth session: Discuss effectiveness of caregiver strategies, improve caregiver’s confidence in decision-making, discuss care plan to improve quality of life for the caregiver and person living with dementia.
- Fifth session: Discuss implementation of care plan, how to approach the different transitions as the disease progresses, and provide appropriate resources and referrals.
- Additional dementia guidance and support session options:
- You may schedule a 30-, 45-, or 60-minute session on an as-needed basis.
Note: All of the dementia guidance and support sessions are tailored to the caregiver’s needs at the time the sessions are scheduled. The descriptions of each of the sessions are provided as a guideline and are modified accordingly.
